Taizyn Duskbringer - process

Taizyn Duskbringer is a tabletop rpg character from a sort of grim iron age fantasy world of eternal war and suffering. She leads the armies of the Witch Court, a cruel society of shrieking blood thirsty sadists. I had so much fun painting her and I really wanted to display her regal power. Here is my process of painting Taizyn.

Taizyn Duskbringer, Witch Supreme of the Stormspear Coven. Raidmistress for the Witch Court.

This was the first version of the image. I knew what I wanted her face and design to look like but I thought the pose was stiff and boring so I scrapped all that and only kept the face. (This later turned out to be a problem)

Taizyn is the leader of a fearsome army, riding to battle on an enormous ancient lizard. I wanted to give her a powerful pose and display her on the field of battle. I experimented with giving her an evil grin as well but scrapped that quickly.

This was the final version and I was very happy with it HOWEVER as time passed I was more and more bothered by the size of her head and the angle of her face. It wasn't right.

I repainted her face completely, scrapping the one thing I kept from the first version. It had to be done and now it feels much more natural.
